Tonight the vigil really starts with the round-the-clock regular checks. I don't know why I'm so excited about that either. There's something mysterious and adventurous about shining a torch about the place in the frosty starlight at 1:00 am and then again a few hours later and then again in the grey first light, but this has to go on for about two and a half weeks. The novelty wears off at about day three.
